Butts to the wind…

Butts to the wind…

Unless you have been living under a rock you may have heard about a little storm cruising up the eastern seaboard called Dorian.  She is a life-sucking hurricane that is wreaking havoc to those in her path.

While clicking on my local news homepage I came across a story about the 100 wild horses that live on the Outerbanks of North Carolina, which is right in Dorian’s path.  They have lived there for generations.   The news story was about how these horses would not be evacuated due to the hurricane.

“With Hurricane Dorian quickly approaching, the colonial Spanish mustangs will huddle together and ride out the storm using a trick horses have used for centuries.  They will move to higher ground and gather under sturdy oak trees to shelter from the storm, said the Corolla Wild Horse Fund, which manages the herd and sends a similar reminder during major hurricanes due to the outpouring of concern for the horses. “They’ll likely ride out winds and rain as their ancestors did before them — in huddles, butts to the wind,” it added.”  The original post can be found here.

This struck me as funny.  Well, it is funny.  The whole butts to the wind part.  But then it got me thinking about the storms in our lives.  How many times do I call my tribe of friends to rally when life gets hard?  We circle the troups and pray.   Often times we will do just as these horses did.  Gather together, facing each other and butts to the wind.

The next time life gets hard take the advice of the horses.  Gather your tribe, group, life people…whatever you call them and rally!  Spend some face to face time and ride out the storms.  Support each other.  There is no better feeling than knowing you are not alone in struggles.  We can learn from the horses when times are hard!

Remember to keep your butts to the wind!

I read about this the other day. It’s so cool that horses are in the wild in this modern age. Thanks for sharing!

  2. I’m just curious to know did the horses survive it? It is a good analogy though and I totally agree with you – when life throws us hardship the best way to deal with it is to rally round and stay close together. Strength in numbers! #KCACOLS

  6. It’s amazing that they can survive such extreme weather. It’s so important to have the ones you love and can count on close in times of need. Thanks so much for linking up at #KCACOLS. Hope you come back again next time.

  7. I have a lot of friends in Florida and was pretty happy they all came out pretty unscathed. Pretty happy these horses did too #KCACOLS
