Mom Life, View from the chair

Real women wear capes…

Real women wear capes…Mammogram Capes that is!

I know, I know…it is not October, which is  Breast Cancer Awareness Month.   It is, in fact, the dead middle of summer.   With that said I shall continue.  Real women wear capes, mammogram capes!  My mammogram was due in March.  MARCH!  That was several months ago.

Reasons for delay

  • I am busy
  • I am a mom, I put everyone else ahead of me.
  • I need to make an appointment
  • I will get to it.
  • I can’t afford it.
  • I will…
  • I am…
  • I have…

Fill in the blank for your excuse!

This is your gentle reminder to take care of yourself!  Your yearly mammogram is fully covered by most insurances as preventative medicine.  For those who lack insurance or are under-covered, there are resources out there to help.  The National Breast Cancer Foundation is a good place to turn to for those resources.   Click here for their National Mammography Program!  Early detection is KEY!

For the newbies

For those of you who are new to taking pictures of “girls”, it is really easy.   Make your appointment and show up.  You will be given a little changing room and a place to lock your clothing.  You remove top clothing and put on a lovely little cape and go to your room.  The technician will take it from there.  The tech will adjust you and place things where they need to be placed.  You simply follow instructions.  Lean in.  Stand still.  Hold your breath.  Relax.  Repeat.  Then you are done!

Don’t put it off!

Don’t be like me and use excuses to put off your care.  We need to take care of the “girls” along with every other part of our bodies.

To those fighting this battle, I wish you every success and am standing with you in the fight for a cure.  Don’t wait till the month of October when everything turns pink to take care of the “girls”.  Do it now!
