Mirium Webster defines determination as

b : firm or fixed intention to achieve a desired end
This morning I watched as my daughter tried to ride her bike without her training wheels for the first time. Over and over and OVER again. She would lean and put a foot down. Start over. She would start to wobble. Start over. She would go a few feet and then stop. Start over. With such determination, she is trying and trying and trying again!
I am in awe of her courage. Riding a bike might not seem like a big deal but put it in perspective. She is small. Young. Brave. I know a skinned knee is in our future. But that is not stopping her. My thought is if she can problem solve and tackle hard things when she is young she will be equipped to tackle harder things in the future. Do I want her to fall and get hurt? No. But that is a part of life. Sometimes in life, you skin your knee, trip, fall. In real life, you need to know how to self-care and get back in the game. I don’t want her to be afraid to fail. To fall. To bleed. I can’t protect her from real life. But I can give her the skills she needs to face what comes her way.
Ride on baby girl. Ride on!
