Mom Life, View from the chair

I love Jesus but I drive like a jerk…

I have been tracking with Jesus for many years. I teach at a Christian school. I am involved in my local community of believers at a great church. Most of my circle of friends are of the same faith. Needless to say, I am far from perfect but each day I hope to become a better Christian. I do however struggle with one thing. Here I go. I am about to bear my soul.

I drive like a jerk!

Yup. I must confess. The sole reason I do not have a bumper sticker on my car promoting the Christian school I work at, John 3:16, the cross, or even the Christian fish (Ichthus) is because I drive like a jerk. I get super impatient when slow people are in front of me. I get cranky when someone is riding my bumper…YES, I even slow down just to rip them off! See that is a totally jerky move.

I am getting better. I used to roll in a decked-out RED SUV with a sunroof, great sound system, remote car starter, and all the bells and whistles. Now having the mom van has slowed my roll a bit. Not as cool rolling in the mom van. The kicking sound system has been replaced by kid’s worship or the Christian satellite station.

Most important the gym bag has been replaced by a car seat. I know have a pair of eyes watching my every move. She is at the age where it is no longer do as I say…it is now do as I do.

I am not ready to put Christian bumper stickers on just yet…but perhaps soon.

In the wise words of my mother “at 65 you are driving it, at 90 you are aiming it.”

Slow down moms and dads, drive safe!

But I am trying to get better! 🙂

  3. Don’t get a Christian car sticker! I’ve never seen one in a car that’s well driven. It’s almost like the driver thinks the sticker is a “get out of free jail” card

  9. To be fair I slow down if people are way to close behind me, partially to annoy them but also because 1. I’m a bit scared and 2. I’d rather they took their impatient selves of in front of me and got on their way. So maybe you can take that one off the jerk column and have it as a win 😉 #blogstravaganza

  10. Hahaha…same! I am so grumpy when I’m driving…perhaps it’s because I’m from Los Angeles and grew up with aggressive drivers and parking lot on the freeway kind of traffic. I currently sport that red suv and would think I’m hard to miss, but people continue to try to kill me every day!

  14. I have to say I do enjoy driving sometimes – when the sun is shining, the kids are behaving, and I know where I’m going! When these things coincide it’s brilliant, it’s just a shame it doesn’t happen often!
