National Police Week

National Police Week

In 1962, President John F. Kennedy signed a proclamation which designated May 15 as Peace Officers Memorial Day and the week in which that date falls as Police Week. Currently, tens of thousands of law enforcement officers from around the world converge on Washington, DC to participate in a number of planned events which honor those that have paid the ultimate sacrifice.

I know in the past few years the police have been under scrutiny.  This post is not about that.  It is about honoring the good men and women who stand in front of me to keep me and my community safe.  It is about the men and women who run towards danger when everyone else is running away.  It is about giving them honor and remembering those who have died in the line of duty.

This year I am honored to have a member of my family wearing a badge.  This family member is a police officer in a small town and does her job well.  She is heading towards graduate school in the fall to get her Masters in Forensic Psychology.  I could not be more proud.  Beyond my own family member, I have many friends who wear a badge and protect.  I am proud to call them friends.

To the many men and women who are good officers, I thank you.

Some superheroes wear capes…some wear a badge!

Matthew 5:9

Blessed are the peacemakers,
for they will be called children of God.

  14. so important. we attend the policeman’s ball every year in support. thank you for posting!

  15. People are so divided on the police. It seems nowadays that you’re either with the blue lives matter side or the police brutality side. I respect cops, I don’t let a few bad apples ruin my perception of them, but I also see how unnecessary force can also be an issue. Everyone is entitled to their opinion

  16. Police and Army who is working for the safety of the country are really great and an inspiration. My big solute to them.

  17. I salute all policemen who are dedicated to maintaining law and order. I have cousins and friends who are in the service.

  18. I had no idea that there was a week dedicated to just police officers! How cool!

My dad was a military man and I have relatives who served in the forces. Police officers give their lives every day to protect the common man and it is an honor to commend them.

  21. We love our local police department and appreciate all the armed forces that keep us safe.
