Squam Lake Science Center

A little gem nestled at the foot of the White Mountains is the Squam Lake Science Center.  This is a place to get up close to nature while walking through well-groomed trails winding around the property.    This center has live animal exhibits in the natural habitat settings.  The animals are free to roam and are well protected.

The animals come from various places.  Most have come here because they were injured and can no longer survive in the wild or they were abandoned and brought here to live.  there are a few cases where they have gotten animals from other zoos as well.  They have a dedicated staff to make sure the animals are healthy and well taken care of.

From bears to otters they offer a wide variety of animals to observe.  They are never forced to move or put on a show.  We happen to be there in heat of the day and most of the animals were relaxing in the shade just as they would in the wild.

The last picture has a bear hiding behind a tree.   Believe it or not, he is there.

Along with the ability to see these amazing animals, Squam Lake Science Center also has an amazing playground and playhouse.  The playground offers many natural elements for young and old to climb and play.

In the playhouse, there are tunnels, ladders, and a giant spider web to play on.

Along with the animals and play structure, Squam has well-groomed trails to walk.  It was a lovely day to walk and enjoy nature.

Pack a lunch and hit the trails to enjoy this Science Center.  It is a great way to spend the day.

Do they allow dogs? Scooter Gorski wants to know.

Sadly no. They want their animals behind glass, fence or cage!
